Whereas, for colorimetric purpose, the three-dimensionality of colour cannot becircumvented and clearly refers to cone fundamentals, we examine situations where areduced or expanded dimensionality could be experienced. Besides the case of individualssuch as dichromats who suffer from a limited number of cone photopigments and enjoytwo-dimensional colour vision, specific contexts or specific operations may requireadditional dimensions which could be supported by rod signals or melanopsin signals.
