Scanning electron microscopy (SEM)

The LRMH is equipped with a scanning electron microscope with an Energy dispersive spectrometer. This equipment makes it possible to observe samples with a magnification ranging from 35 to 100 000, to lead elementary qualitative analyses as well as multi-element distribution mapping. This technique enables the observation of the state of surfaces of materials (stone, renders, concrete, metal, etc.) ; the observation and analysis of polychrome cross sections, wall paintings, easel paintings, metal surfaces; the characterisation of alteration products of stones, renders and glass; the morphological analysis of textile fibres; the observation and analysis of metal threads; the visualisation of micro-organisms ; the characterisation of the products used for restoration, abrasives, mineral stone treatments, etc.
